Penguin Teachers’ Academy

Branding

Penguin Teachers’ Academy is a sub-brand that was created to provide professional development and teaching resources to the Education audience of Penguin Books Australia. The look and feel was developed around the word ‘growth’ and was inspired by nature.

Logo / Motif

The three words in the logo have been stacked to suggest moving up / climbing / reaching new heights, and each word sits on a ‘growth’ line. These lines can be lengthened to create a holding device for text or imagery, and a leaf graphic can be added to resemble a growing branch or tree. This branch or tree motif can also be used on its own (not connected to the logo) as a holding device, or simply as a decorative element.

Colour Palette

The colour palette consists of five main colours. The three primary (logo) colours are leafy green for progression, cloudy grey for professionalism, and ocean blue for intelligence. The two secondary colours are fuchsia pink for compassion, and autumn orange for creativity / positive change. In addition, the use of a black background provides a level of sophistication for a more mature audience (in contrast to the ‘young’ products that the sub-brand promotes).

Tagline

The tagline, ‘We take your education seriously’, acknowledges that educators also need to be educated in order to share knowledge in the best possible way. Moreover, it states that Penguin Teachers’ Academy can really make a difference when teaching / learning for both educators and students.

Typography

The primary typeface, Brandon Grotesque has a modern, contemporary look and was chosen to compliment the leaf graphic. The secondary typeface, Caecilia has a more classic feel and was chosen as a nod to typewriters / printed books that are traditionally set in a serif font.
